“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.”
― Mahatma Gandhi
We live in this beautiful planet called earth . The Earth is the only world known so far to exhibit life forms. There is nowhere else, at least in the near future, to which our species could migrate. Visit, yes. Settle, not yet. Like it or not, for the moment the Earth is where we make our stand. We all enjoy its wonderful gifts such as water, air and the nature. But all we do is take all this for granted . So today we will discuss about a theory whose probability for happening is practically zero in the next few billion years .
We know that the rotation of the Earth is gradually slowing down. But what would happen if the earth suddenly stop rotating . Would it be a good place to live in ?
Of course, if the Earth suddenly stop from spinning, most of our planet would rapidly become very inhospitable. Half of the planet would almost continuously face the heat of the Sun, while other half would be freezing cold due to lack of heat from he sun.
DID YOU KNOW:
The rotation of the earth takes place once every 23 hours, 56 minutes and 4.09053 seconds, this is called the sidereal period, and its circumference is roughly 40,075 kilometers. Thus, the surface of the earth at the equator moves at a speed of 1670 kilometers per hour or 460 meters per second , or roughly 1,070 miles per hour. That is crazy fast!!!!
TO know why can’t we feel the earth rotating CLICK the link.
So if the earth sudden stop everyone standing at the equator would suddenly find themselves travelling at 1.4 times the speed of sound relative to the now-still surface . Among the things that would still be moving is the atmosphere .We would quickly realize that we are experiencing the worst wind storm ever imaginable.
Then there’s also the fact that about 70% of the Earth’s surface is water. The shift in momentum would yield enormous tsunamis, which would probably be even worse due to the raging windstorm. The oceans would eventually migrate to the poles, flooding much of the northern and southern hemispheres and creating a huge land mass around the equatorial circumference.
There’s yet one more liquid we’d have to be concerned with, that is the magma which constantly moving through the Earth’s mantle and core. Lets assuming it’s still moving, that would most likely lead to volcanic eruptions through every channel possible to the surface…and there would be earthquakes that go with that.
So if it ever happens our earth would be a crazy place to live in . So enjoy what you are given and protect our earth cause the worse is yet to come.
